WORTH HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY

FT WORTH TX *ONGOING

Situated in South Fort Worth, the Worth Heights neighborhood is growing and in need of a larger elementary school campus to support increased enrollment and the integration of students from a nearby closed school. The building is conceptualized as the Trailhead for a life-long journey of learning and exploration. Its two academic bars reach out to welcome the community, situating the media center as a jewel box within the landscape, while the noisier elements on the west side of the site buffer the school from a nearby highway and access road. The interior strategy is an extension of the architectural moves - material blur the lines between inside and outside, perforated metal guardrails maintain transparency and sightlines. The palette is neutral and grounded but contrasted by bold graphics, bright colors, and integrated wayfinding on floor and wall surfaces.

The main circulation thoroughfare delineates between academic environment and more opaque program.

A composite wall system of wood grille panels, Aluminum Composite Panels, Millwork Baffles, and dimensional signage welcomes students, faculty, and parents.

Exterior masonry at level 01 and panel coursing at level 02 extend inside the building. This makes the gathering spaces an extension of the central courtyard, light-filled and belonging to the neighborhood.
